Canva vs Roomotion: which is better for real estate listing videos?
Canva is a general-purpose design platform: graphics, flyers, presentations and videos you edit yourself, with an AI that adds subtle motion to one photo at a time. Roomotion does one thing: it turns property photos into a listing video, with real camera moves, the property details, your contact info and both 16:9 and 9:16 formats, with no editing. For listing videos, Roomotion does it all automatically, with no effort on your part; for everything else in your marketing, Canva remains an excellent tool.

What Canva does
Canva is an online design platform used by agents everywhere. For a brokerage, it is an everyday tool: window displays, flyers, social posts, listing presentations, business cards. Its strength is breadth: millions of templates and one editor for every format.
For video, Canva offers three approaches.
- Real estate video templates. You drop your photos into an existing template, which plays them in sequence with transitions and animated text. The result is a slideshow of still images, not an immersive video.
- Magic Video. Canva automatically assembles up to 10 photos or clips into a vertical video, with music and transitions. It is fast, and it is a slideshow: the photos stay still images.
- Image to Video. Canva’s AI turns a photo into a 5-second clip. In Smart mode, Canva applies a subtle default motion inside the image, not a camera move; in Custom mode, you describe the motion you want in a prompt.
Canva also has a brand kit (logo, colors, fonts) and a generous free plan, which makes it a great starting point for an agent who is just getting started.
What Roomotion does
Roomotion does one thing: it turns listing photos into a real estate video. You upload 5 to 15 photos, enter the property details and your contact info, and the AI animates each photo with a camera move: pushing into the living room, rising up the facade, arcing around the kitchen.
The video is assembled for you, with an intro (title, location, price), an end screen with your name, background music and your brand kit. It runs 20 to 65 seconds depending on the number of photos, and it is ready in about ten minutes, in 16:9 and 9:16.
The video stays true to your photos, with no hallucinations: no added furniture, no made-up rooms. That is what you need from a video that goes with a listing.

Animating a photo: subtle motion or a camera move
This is the most visible difference between the two. Canva itself describes Image to Video as a way to bring images to life with subtle, AI-generated motion. The result animates what is in the photo, like a curtain moving or a reflection sliding, while the camera stays put. It is not a camera move, and it does not compare with Roomotion’s. In Smart mode, you don’t choose that motion: Canva does.
To get something else, you switch to Custom mode and describe the motion in writing, photo by photo. You still have to know what to write: results vary from one generation to the next, and getting a good shot often takes several tries, rewording the prompt each time. Across 10 photos, that back-and-forth adds up.
Roomotion works differently: each photo becomes a camera shot that moves through the room. The foreground passes in front of the background, the perspective shifts, and the viewer feels like they are walking through the home. For each photo, you pick the move from a list, or keep the default one. No prompt to write.
A listing video, step by step
Take the same job: a 10-photo video of an apartment, with the price, the address and your contact info, to post on a listing site and on Instagram.
With Canva
- Create a video design, or start from a real estate template.
- For an animated look, run Image to Video on each photo: 10 generations. Rerun the ones you don’t like.
- Put the clips on the timeline in walkthrough order and adjust durations and transitions.
- Add the text (title, price, address), your logo and an end screen with your contact info.
- Pick a music track and export the 16:9 version.
- Make a 9:16 version for social media and check the framing of every shot.
All of it is doable, and the result depends on the care you put in. Each generation also uses part of your plan’s monthly AI allowance.
With Roomotion
- Upload your photos and drag them into walkthrough order. If you like, pick a camera move for each one.
- Enter the property details and your contact info, pick a music track and your brand kit.
- Start the generation. You get an email when the video is ready, in 16:9 and 9:16.
Your part takes a few minutes, with no editing skills. The full method is in our guide How to create a real estate video from your photos.
Logo, property details and contact info
Both tools can apply your brand. In Canva, the brand kit keeps your logo, colors and fonts at hand, and you place each element in the video yourself. The property details and your contact info are text boxes to fill in and position, video after video.
In Roomotion, these elements have a set place. The intro shows the title, location and price; the end screen shows your name, phone number and brokerage. Your brand kit (logo, color, fonts) is saved once and applies to every new video, at no extra cost. Every listing keeps the same look, whoever on the team creates it. It is all explained in the guide How to add your logo to a real estate video.
Landscape and portrait formats
A listing video does double duty: 16:9 on your website, listing sites and YouTube, 9:16 on Instagram, TikTok and in stories.
Canva can produce both. You create the second version yourself, either by hand or with the automatic resize available on paid plans, then check that every shot is still well framed. Magic Video, for its part, only produces vertical videos.
Roomotion delivers both formats with every generation, from the same shots. To get the most out of the vertical version, read our guide How to create an Instagram Reel for a property.
The cost of 10 videos a month
Take an agent who lists 10 properties a month and wants a video for each one.
- Canva: the free plan can be enough for slideshows. For more AI and automatic resizing, Canva Pro costs $144 a year for one person in the US. Financially, Canva is clearly cheaper, but not in time.
- Roomotion: the 10-video pack costs €300 excl. VAT, or €30 per video, with no subscription. Credits are valid for 12 months.
The real comparison is about what you get and the time you spend. With Canva, you pay little and build each video yourself, listing after listing. With Roomotion, you pay per video and get a finished listing video, with real camera moves, for a few minutes of work. All the details are on the pricing page.
